Sewing Christmas Gift Ideas

If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the sewist in your life, I’ve got you! Here I’ve made of list of gift ideas from small stocking stuffers to large gifts that will send a sewer straight to the moon. Give the list a look and find the perfect gift for every sewer!

Stocking Stuffer Gifts

  1. An invisible zipper foot was probably the first thing that really upped my sewing game. Once you nail how to sew an invisible zipper (or watch a YouTube tutorial every time) your sewing items will look higher quality. I kinda like the plastic clear ones because you can really see the zipper teeth while you are sewing. This one works perfectly on my Brother machine.
  2. A gathering foot is great for speeding up the process of gathering yards of fabric. This is great for making ruffles, which you will then want to attach to everything.
  3. Rolled hem feet give a clean, professional finish to any garment. They can take a little getting used to, but so worth it when you get the hang of it!

Just like bobby pins, sewing pins seem to disappear into a black hole never to be found again. Well, until you step on one on the ground. A sewer can seriously never have enough pins. This is an easy and helpful gift for any sewist.

I just started using fabric clips this year and my life has changed! They make holding fabric together so much faster. Plus you can’t accidentally stab yourself with a plastic clip, unlike normal pins.

Every sewer knows the pain of breaking a needle mid-project and realizing they don’t have any needles left. The best thing is to always have extra sewing machine needles stocked up. Universal needles work for loads of projects, so it’s a good idea to keep lots of them on hand.

You can never have enough thread as a sewer. It’s nice to have a range of colors to easily match lots of different fabrics.

These value packs of threads last me for years!

Medium Sized Gifts

These are my favorite scissors of all time. A lot of sewing accuracy comes down to how the pattern is cut out. These scissors are sharp and help me cut clean lines. Bonus, they are spring loaded so my hand doesn’t cramp when I use them for a long time. This just means the scissors spring open so you do half as much work.

If you want to cut faster and with precision a rotary cutter and mat are going to be your best friends. I especially love using this for slippery fabric that can shift a lot if you are using scissors.

I like that this rotary cutter has a safety button that locks the blade in place while in use and when you store it. They have different sizes, but I prefer a bigger mat so that I can cut more pattern pieces at a time without needing to shift the mat.

This one also comes with some extra things like fabric clips, a ruler, and extra blades.

Massage

Our poor backs suffer so much from all the cutting and hunched-over sewing. Every sewer would be thrilled to receive a massage as a gift. I usually buy massages through Groupon. If you happen to be in Europe Aire Ancient Baths is so luxurious and nice and they have locations around Europe. I’ve been to the one in Sevilla several times.

If you know the sewer in your life likes to learn and research about sewing, get them a specialized book.

Some ideas:

Textile encyclopedia book to help them choose the right fabric.

Pattern design books to help them get into pattern making. I love this one!

Or a book to help them get the perfect fit. This one is a favorite of mine.

Extraordinary Sewing Gifts

I started sewing on a Brother sewing machine and still have that machine to this day. I have another Brother machine that I use currently and I love it. It has not let me down. It handles all of my projects from swimwear to wool to silk. Super easy to use and a great price for the quality.

This model is the Brother XR9550 Sewing and Quilting Machine. I have nearly the same model, mine just has fewer stitch options.

I have been dreaming of leveling up my sewing with a serger for years! This is a not-so-secret Christmas gift I am receiving this year. I did a lot of research and this model is well-loved by almost all who have it. Plus the price for quality seemed really fair. I’ve seen it on Amazon for $400.

This is the Juki Mo654DE.

I hope you found the PERFECT gift for the sewer in your life of for yourself!
