Fabric: A lightweight to medium weight woven fabric (about 150-270 gsm / 4.5 oz – 8 oz) is ideal for this pattern. You could use: linen, cotton poplin, cotton lawn (top pick for honeycomb smocking), linen viscose blend… If you are doing the honeycomb smocking, a fabric with a bit of structure can make the honeycombs look nice and crisp. Choosing a softer fabric like double gauze will create a softer honeycomb that often looks less structured, especially after washing.
