Sewing Gift Guide

Need to find a gift for the sewing lover on your list? If you’re tired of the same old predictable gifts and want to surprise your loved ones with something truly special, you’re in the right place. This blog post has a curated list of fun, practical, and helpful sewing gifts. I bet I have some gift ideas you haven’t even thought of! Grab some cocoa and get ready to find the perfect gift.

You can find most of the items on the list and even more ideas here.

Stocking Stuffer Sewing Gifts

I just started using fabric clips this year and my life has changed! They make holding fabric together so much faster. Plus you can’t accidentally stab yourself with a plastic clip, unlike normal pins.

They’re also better than pins while working with knit and swimwear fabrics because they won’t create little holes in the fabric.

If you legit have no idea about sewing or what to get for a sewing lover, you can’t go wrong with a gift card to one of the most popular fabric and sewing supplies stores.

Some other fabrics stores to get gift cards for are: Blackbird Fabrics or Mood Fabrics.

You can never have enough thread as a sewer. It’s nice to have a range of colors to easily match lots of different fabrics.

These value packs of threads last me for a long time!

Learn to Dye Fabric

Once someone gets into sewing, they start planning the ways that they can make each project unique. One way to do that is to dye fabric. If the person you’re buying the gift for likes sewing, there’s a good chance they also like sustainable crafting ideas. Using natural items like onion skins, avocados, and more is a fun way to naturally manipulate our fabric’s appearance. Plus there’s a good chance they don’t already own this book, making it the perfect sewing gift!

Maybe you know someone who wants to start learning how to sew. One of my favoritate gifts I every recieved was my first sewing machine. It didn’t take very long after getting it to realize I also needed seiwng lessons. So, if you want to give the gift of sewing, I created this beginner sewing course to teach you everything you need to know to start sewing confidently!

There are 14 modules with videos for each one. We’ll cover selecting the right sewing tools, threading a sewing machine, choosing fabric, reading a pattern, and finishing by making a bucket hat or beret together. All of the skills learned in this course are transferable so that, after the course, each student can sew all kinds of sewing projects on their own!

I’m not gonna lie, my sewing room can get pretty disorganized. Simple organizational tools like this help keep my space tidy.

Guaranteed every sewist has at least 17.5 spools hanging around. This thread and bobbin organizer will help keep all of those in order!

If you know someone who has been sewing for a long time, this could be the perfect gift! Learning to sew swimwear and lingerie is usually something sewists wait to do until they feel a bit more experienced. So it’s totally possible that the sewing lover on your list doesn’t have a book like this and would love to learn some new sewing techniques.

I haven’t used this book yet, since it just came out, but it looks so exciting and it’s full of lingerie patterns and sewing tips!

The new scissors on the block are electric scissors. They help cut quickly and can cut through thick fabric with ease.  Bonus, they prevent the hand cramps that I normally get with regular scissors.

There’s a high probability if someone loves sewing they probably also take the time to fix, mend, and upcycle their old clothes.

This book is full of fun and unique ideas on how to repurpose old clothes into new fashionable pieces.

Extraordinary Sewing Gifts

I started sewing on a Brother sewing machine and still have that machine to this day. I have another Brother machine that I use currently and I love it. It has not let me down. It handles all of my projects from swimwear to wool to silk. Super easy to use and a great price for the quality.

This model is the Brother XR9550 Sewing and Quilting Machine. I have nearly the same model, mine just has fewer stitch options.

There’s a good chance that the person who loves sewing in your life also loves crafting in general. Us hobby collectors love to combine our art forms. You can create unique designs to iron onto clothes making them even more personalized.

Use a Cricut to make bachelorette tees and birthday gifts. Add a special touch to each handmade item.

Getting a kit with some vinyl, tools, and a cutting mat is a great way to spark and launch creativity.

I got this model last year, and I love it! I did a lot of research and this model is well-loved by almost all who have it. Plus the price for quality seemed really fair. I’ve seen it on Amazon for under $400.

I’ve sewn tons of swimwear and knit dresses on it. Overlocking the edges makes everything look more professional and it takes 1/2 as long to sew!

This is the Juki Mo654DE.

Maybe you’re thinking, “What the heck do earphones have to do with sewing?” That’s a great question. What you may or may not know is that sewing a project takes a loooonnnnnggggg time! And unlike some other hobbies, we have to watch our hands and can’t look away from our work.

So how can we sew without getting bored? My favorite thing to do is to listen to music or pop on an audiobook. Then I can get into my sewing flow state.

Since a lot of us home sewers don’t have dedicated sewing studios, we’re often sharing that space with other people like roommates or family members. So it can be nice if we have our music and books played through earphones.

I don’t have the actual scientific data to back this claim up but I assume about 8.5 out of every 10 sewist has back pain. We are always contorting and crawling on the floor to cut fabric or hunching our backs while sewing at our machine for hours on end.

I think if you ask any sewing person they’ll say they definitely need a massage. So something like this back massager would be the perfect gift.

I hope you found the PERFECT gift for the sewist in your life or for yourself!
